Trip Planning Resources
Cortes Island is an ideal starting point for exploring Desolation Sound, the Discovery Islands, and the many hidden gems along this coastline. Whether you're planning a multi-day adventure in these waters, this trip information may be valuable to you.
Multiday Adventures
Tides & weather: Before planning a multi day kayak expedition- it is important to do your research. Make sure to print out the tides, and regularly check the wind forecast.
Routes: We recommend purchasing the wild coast maps of the Discovery Islands and Desolation Sound prior to your trip. Become a member of BC Marine Trails to access their map of camping areas around the Discovery Islands and Desolation sound. Make sure to purchase a nautical chart of the area. Chart #3538 encompasses most of the paddling around Cortes- Find a chart dealer here.
