SUP and Kayak Rental Policies

These policies apply to all self-guided rentals, including stand-up paddleboards (SUPs), day kayaks, and expedition sea kayaks.

By completing a rental booking, guests acknowledge that they have read, understood, and agreed to the policies outlined below.

Please note that certain policies apply specifically to either SUPs or kayaks. Where applicable, these distinctions are clearly marked.

Our goal is to provide safe, enjoyable experiences while operating in a coastal marine environment that includes changing weather, wind, tides, and boat traffic. Renters are responsible for assessing whether the conditions and route are appropriate for their skill level.

Advanced Booking

Advance reservations are required. Availability is limited and equipment is allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

Bookings are confirmed once payment has been received and confirmation has been issued.

Rental Policy & Day Count

Rental periods are calculated per calendar day, not by the hour.

  • Pick-up or delivery on any day counts as one full rental day. Accommodation for pick-up or delivery the evening before a scheduled rental will be considered based on availability and scheduling.

  • Return on a later date counts as an additional full rental day.

  • Partial days are billed as full days.

Example: Delivery Friday afternoon and return Sunday morning = 3 rental days.

Age & Experience Requirements

Stand-Up Paddleboards (SUPs)

  • Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied on the water by a parent or legal guardian.

  • Parents/guardians are responsible for assessing their child’s swimming ability, comfort in open water, and ability to respond to changing conditions.

  • All participants must be comfortable in the water and capable of remounting a board independently.

SUP rentals are best suited to calm, protected conditions. Coastal use requires appropriate skill and judgment.

Kayaks (Day & Expedition)

All kayak renters must:

  • Have prior paddling experience.

  • Be capable of basic boat control (forward stroke, turning, stopping).

  • Demonstrate knowledge of assisted and/or self-rescue techniques appropriate to their trip.

  • Be comfortable paddling in open water with wind, waves, and marine traffic.

Expedition kayak rentals require demonstrated prior experience in:

  • Multi-day coastal paddling and trip planning

  • Weather/ tidal awareness and navigation

  • Packing and load management

We reserve the right to decline or modify a rental if experience level is not appropriate for the intended route or conditions.

Liability & Waivers

All participants must sign a liability waiver prior to departure. No equipment will be released without a completed waiver.

For minors, a parent or legal guardian must sign on their behalf.

Renters acknowledge that:

  • Paddling activities involve inherent risks.

  • Coastal marine environments are dynamic and unpredictable.

  • They are participating in a self-guided activity.

Prior to departure, renters will receive a basic orientation covering equipment use and care, launch and landing considerations, local area overview, general safety considerations. Our pre-departure orientation is informational and does not constitute formal instruction, certification, or supervision. Renters are fully responsible for their route choices, navigation, weather decisions, and on-water conduct.

Safety & Equipment Use

General Safety Requirements (All Rentals)

  • PFDs must be worn at all times while on the water.

  • Alcohol and drugs are strictly prohibited during rental use.

  • Renters must monitor weather and marine forecasts prior to and during their trip.

  • Rentals should not proceed in unsafe wind or storm conditions.

  • All equipment must be used as intended and secured properly when not in use.

We strongly recommend:

  • Filing a detailed float plan with a trusted contact.

  • Carrying a communication device appropriate for your route.

  • Conservatively assessing wind exposure and return routes.

SUP-Specific Safety Notes

Inflatable SUPs are best suited to calm lakes, protected lagoons and light wind conditions.

For coastal or tidal environments:

  • Users must understand wind drift and offshore wind risk.

  • Routes should avoid open crossings and long distances from exit points unless the paddler has appropriate experience.

SUPs are significantly more affected by wind than kayaks and require conservative decision-making.

Kayak-Specific Safety Notes

Kayaks may be used in lakes, lagoons, protected coastal waters and open water routes appropriate to the paddler’s skill level.

For open water and multi-day trips:

  • Renters must understand tidal currents and marine charts.

  • Proper load distribution is required for expedition kayaks.

  • Weather windows must be assessed before committing to crossings.

  • Night paddling is not recommended unless specifically planned and appropriately equipped.

All renters are responsible for selecting routes within their skill and comfort level.
